The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) is located in the immediate vicinity of the “Fraunhofer-Haus” in Munich.
Three years after completion of the office tower “Fraunhofer-Haus”, an energy network between the two properties was established.
The CHP unit of the tower was integrated into the electricity and cooling supply of the IZM. The clean rooms of the IZM have a constantly high consumption of electricity and cooling. This is offset by a strongly fluctuating demand for heat, cooling and electricity in the office tower.
Creating the energy network, the full utilization hours of the CHP were increased, thereby significantly raising the overall efficiency of the plant.
