The Hypo Tower has long become a landmark of Munich. Designed by Walther and Bea Betz in the early 1970s, it is considered one of the outstanding works of modern architecture in Germany and is now a protected monument. The overall concept for technical supply and disposal was visionary for its time. In response to the first oil crisis, the aim was to use energy more efficiently than had previously been known in office buildings.
The technical building systems were grouped by function and compactly arranged. Completely new approaches to building technology for that time were explored, such as air transport through performance-controlled central ventilation units, heat recovery, efficient energy use, cooling storage, primary and secondary systems, etc. As a result, the usable space for the bank was significantly expanded while energy was saved. In 1998 and 1999, KBP carried out renewal and refurbishment measures for the executive floors in the tower and the low-rise building.
