The Cologne-based architecture firm JSWD won the architectural competition for this project in 2015. A new neighbourhood was created directly adjacent to the federal quarter and museum district. The building complex consists of three polygonal structures that gently curve around the corners of the triangular plot. The resulting central open space opens up towards the Bundeskanzlerplatz (Federal Chancellor Square).
Building uses include catering, hotel, conference and office space, which will be available to both tenants and visitors. The above-ground areas are used commercially and would allow for up to 4,500 workplaces if used exclusively for office space.
To ensure sustainability, the German energy efficiency standard “KfW-55” was implemented.
