Besonderheit

The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) is located in close proximity to the Fraunhofer House on the Hansastraße in Munich. Three years after the completion of the office tower, an energy network was established between the two buildings.

The combined heat and power plant (CHP) of the main administration building was integrated into the power and cooling supply of the IZM. The cleanrooms at IZM have a consistently high demand for power and cooling. This is balanced by the highly fluctuating demand for heat, cooling, and electricity at the main administration. By implementing this energy link, the operating hours of the CHP plant were increased while maintaining the same runtime of the system, significantly improving the overall efficiency of the plant.
